Kildare's Heritage Buildings Show 2019

Tue, 28 May 2019 00:05:00 IST

The Irish Georgian Society, Kildare County Council and the Office of Public Works, in association with Creative Ireland, are presenting a free heritage buildings show in the grounds of Castletown House, Celbridge, on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th June 2019.

Over two dozen craftspeople will give practical demonstrations of the key traditional skills needed for the conservation and repair of heritage buildings including lime mortar repair; slate and thatch roofing; sash window repair; stained glass conservation; and iron work, plasterwork and carved stonework repair.

A series of talks will include an introduction to the architectural heritage of County Kildare and an examination of thatched houses in the county; the history and conservation of windows, roofs and wallpaper; and a showcase of heritage buildings whose restoration has been supported by the Irish Georgian Society.  Castletown House will be the subject of two separate talks with Jeanne Meldon describing the conservation and presentation of its decorative interiors and Gretta Doyle leading a walking tour of its historic designed landscape.

Kildare's Heritage Building Show 2019 is a free event and prior booking is not required.  Click here to download the brochure: Kildare's Heritage Buildings Show 2019
